Training

Capital BMX Club has exclusive use of the track for racing and training purposes. Training runs on Thursdays during daylight savings months from 4:30pm-7:00pm.

Like racing, riders are split into their ability groups.

Sprockets & Novices: Basic riding skills are usually covered in sprocket training. More advanced riding is covered in Juniors and advanced.

Training Times

  • Sprockets: 4:30 – 5:30
  • Juniors / Intermediate: 5:30 – 6:30
  • Opentrack: 6:30 – 7:30

Costs

If you are new to training it is $5 for non-club members. This is for no more than 3 weeks. Once you have had your 3 weeks we recommend that you become a club member. You can do this by checking out our Membership page.

Sprockets

Sprocket Training (Thursdays 4:30pm – 5:30pm)

Great news for all Sprockets (7 and unders) and any other newbie riders. Sprocket training runs every Thursday night, starting at 4.30pm weather dependent.

Our Awesome Coach’s will help build those skills, so you are ready to go racing on Sunday club! Some of these skills include balance, control, standing up while riding , and basic cornering techniques.

Parents

You will need to stay. Please Help out and get involved. This also helps your little racers train safely. Come along with any questions you might have, see you Thursday!

Club Members

Once you become a club member your trainer will give you a BMXNZ Sprocket plate. Which now you can enter into race meets.

We have Limited loan bikes and helmets available- Our club members will get first option of these.

Juniors / Advanced

Junior / Advanced (Thursdays 5:30pm – 6:30pm)

The track will be closed to all other riders while training is on. For riders safety (no sprockets please unless you have discussed with the coaches) We encourage all Wellington Region club members to come along for training nights

Where to go?

We meet up in the upper field. Please Arrive early as it helps us with numbers and ability assessments. We suggest you do not exhaust to much energy before coaching starts.

What to bring.

  • A good attitude
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Full safety gear
  • Water

What to Expect

Focus will initially be on strength and fitness before incorporating speed. Skills will naturally come faster as a result of this.

We have experienced coaches who take riders through some warm ups on the upper field. We then usually move to the gate. After this we usually move to areas of the track to focus on skills.
